Lumina Foundation for Education Financial Aid Training Program
Provides services and training that will improve and increase the administration of financial aid at public HBCUs. Three key areas will be focused on at each individual campus – a needs assessments, targeted training and general training.
Lilly Endowment Inc. Fundraising Training
Administered by the Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy, fundraising training is provided to member university staffs. These attendees comprise of Development Officers, National Alumni Presidents and Alumni Directors.
Microsoft Technology Initiative
The Thurgood Marshall Technology Initiative Advisory Committee (TAC) selects recipients of software through a Request for Proposal process. To assess the needs of individual campuses against the resources available, any campus wishing to receive donations of Microsoft software products submit a proposal describing their specific needs, justification, technology plans/planning, and how and where the software will be used.
College Guide
The College Guide was developed to profile TMCF member schools. It includes information detailing requirements, costs and programs. Included in the guide is the common application form which may be used for application to institutions in the TMCF network.
Annual Demographic Report
The Demographic Report provides a better understanding of the enormous impact that our member schools have on their communities and states. The demographic report provides an in-depth look at the impact HBCUs make in their local, regional, state and nationwide communities.
The macro and micro data include information such as student enrollment, financial aid, professor salaries, afterschool programs and community initiatives.
Career Development DVD Project
The first in a series of self-help DVDs on subjects such as “Writing the Perfect Resume and Cover Letter”, “Dining Etiquette”, “Navigating the Corporate Maze”, “The Importance of Credit and Financial Obligations”, and more. The series would be created in conjunction with the Institute and available at low cost to other students attending TMCF schools. All proceeds would benefit the Fund’s scholarships.
Leadership Institute
Select, screen and prepare 500 students to attend the Annual Leadership Institute. To provide possible internships and employment post-graduation.
Member Universities Professional Institute & Exhibition
Training and development of University Administrators of best practices and trends within their respective fields.
TMCF School Reform Program
TMCF in coordination with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, created an initiative to redesign six low performing high schools in partnership with TMCF Member Universities. To date, six high schools have opened in four states; Louisiana (2), North Carolina, Maryland and Texas (2). Over five years, over 3,000 students will be impacted by this initiative
TMCF opens its newly university-assisted high schools each year in phases. The schools will use the Gates Attributes for High Achieving Schools as their framework and the 3 R’s –rigorous instruction, a relevant curriculum and meaningful relationships between students and adults. The schools will also provide opportunities for students to gain college course credits.
