TMCF President & CEO Named Among "Most Influential Blacks In America" For Fourth Consecutive Year

New York, NY – April 18 , 2008 – For the fourth consecutive year, Ebony Magazine (a publication of Johnson Publishing) the world's largest Black-owned publishing company, has named Dwayne Ashley, President and CEO of The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), to its list of Most Influential Blacks in America in the May 2008 issue.  This is Mr. Ashley’s fourth appearance on this prestigious list.

Mr. Ashley is a 21 year non-profit and fundraising executive who guides TMCF to achieve its mission, as a comprehensive higher education assistance organization representing 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities. In leading the organization’s long-term planning and its overall strategic direction, TMCF has surpassed $68 million in support raised for scholarships, capacity building and programs. This represents an increase of more than 1400 percent, and 85 percent of the organization’s gross revenues since its founding in 1987.

During his tenure, TMCF has been designated as a four star charity for its efficiency and effectiveness by the charity navigator. In 2000, he created the Fund’s Leadership Institute which has served more than 2,400 students to date. The program is a model for preparing students to expand their leadership skills for onboarding into their careers, graduate school or starting their own business.

“The Thurgood Marshall College Fund remains the strongest voice and advocate for our students, universities and alumni,” said Dwayne Ashley. “It is imperative that we continue to develop the pipeline of talented leaders.“

Mr. Ashley has commissioned several studies under his leadership, including the Economic Impact Snapshot of public HBCUs, Scholarship Evaluation Report, the Demographic Report, a Gender study at HBCUs and how Corporate and Government Agencies recruit from HBCUs.

Recognized as one the nation’s foremost authorities in education advocacy (generating more than $100 million for higher education and youth programs throughout his career), Mr. Ashley is a highly sought-after speaker and lecturer on leadership and non-profit management. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Gallup Organization; Ronald K. Brown, Evidence Dance Company; and serves as a member of the American Council of Education’s Higher Education Secretariat. He has authored and co-authored several books on non-profit management, fundraising, and youth career development including an award-wining book with Juan Williams entitled “I’ll Find A Way or Make One”, which highlights the history of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and his two most recent releases DREAM INTERNSHIPS!..It’s Not Who You Know…It’s What You Know!, andEIGHT STEPS TO RAISING MONEYMeasuring Your Fundraising Impact.
