TMCF And The Gallup Organization Join Forces To Celebrate African American Flag Officers

New York- April 14, 2008 – The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) will join its partner, The Gallup Organization, in a unique collaboration to celebrate the accomplishments and leadership of African-American Flag Officers. This “Salute to Diversity” reception, with support from The Gallup Organization, will take place at The Gallup Building in Washington, DC on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 5:30 to 8:30PM.

At this inaugural event, the Generals of the U.S. Army, U.S Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps, along with Admirals of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, will be honored for their dedication, commitment, and service to our great nation. These exceptional honorees embody the legacy of Justice Thurgood Marshall and serve as proven leaders for all Americans, especially for the more than 235,000 students who attend TMCF member universities. More than 80% of African American Flag Officers are graduates of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) ROTC programs.

“HBCUs have served as the leadership development place for many of these leaders; in recognizing them, we recognize the important role that HBCUs have played in developing Military Leaders who serve our nation,” said Dwayne Ashley, President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. “This tribute salutes Justice Marshall’s legacy and commitment to public service and to celebrating positive examples for the more than 235,000 young men and women who attend our member universities.”
